Big loss tagged on Women's Rugby World Cup

"While pinning the loss on Rugby Canada as a poor marketing outing, or poor organization, would be an easy mark, it should be noted that the previous incarnations of the Women's Rugby World Cup have not made any money, including the European based tournament in Barcelona in 2002. Before the IRB convinces someone else to host the expensive event, some fiscal realities need to be agreed upon, one of which is that there should be almost no expectation of ticket revenue to rely on, regardless of venue. Plain and simple, every budget drawn for Women's events that expect to underwrite costs through ticket sales, should be thrown into a shredder, and redone, with the focus of dollars coming from the IRB, and any sponsorship arrangements and television contracts that can be cobbled together."
