a rugby marriage - a match made on the pitch mutant, 04:32h
we had an exahausting week, having to stage martins stag-night on tuesday (normal trainings day) and nadines hen night on wednesday (the rugger girls had decided in a different thing, like the girls taking the groom out and the boys taking the bride out, but her non-rugbyfriends were against it). an opportunity lost. at my wedding we had at least a touch rugby match between my hubbies soccer team and my rugby team (misc men/women) before the party started. and everybody enjoyed it! lets not talk about my hen-night, as it was on a tour, and waht happens on tour stays on tour. anyhow: martins and nadines wedding was the first marriage between ruggers as far as we know of. ... one of the things we never had to worry about was our front row. well, in 7s, it's not the front row, but the few forwards you have. and they'd better be fast. which we weren't. unless there was a ball involved. i love the moments when the rather fleshy ones get the ball and run 50m's to score. now we have the first season where my position as a prop is in discussion. and if my position is in discussion (which means i have to switch to utility, i can play 9, cannot play 10 and can play anything in line beneath 15 and 14), i'd do whatever i have to. but, as a prop: i am slow! i am an arse! i am willling to whip your funny arse. ... (our coach was trying to talk me into another position, as our forwards are a bit on the, erm, diverging side. i'm all with him when it comes to have the constant players and the more experienced ones take a position where they can have more control over the game, but i don't see myself scrumhalfing, which would be the only logical position. but maybe even an old dog like me has to learn some new tricks. and i could be the heavywheight champ of scrumhalves ;-) ) ...
